Chanje, Banda shine in Nchalo: Airtel golf tournament

Steve Chanje and Carol Mbalanje Banda are the 2016 winners of the Airtel Nchalo  invitational golf tournament after seing off several other golfers.

Chanje amassed 35 points, having amassed 21 points from the front and suffered from the back where he got 14 but his tally of points were enough to top the men’s category.

Gabriel Kambale came second with same number of points but missed the top position having been counted out by Chanje. Bregger Kayingwe came third with 34 points.

Longest drive for men went to Davis Sibande while Chrispin Ng’oma went away with the nearest to the pin prize in the men’s category.

In the ladies category, Banda ammased 37 points to win the top prize while Roza Mbilizi came second with 30 points and Joline Bapu came finished with  27 points to claim the third position. Longest drive prize in the ladies went to Roza Mbilizi.

Speaking after receiving the prizes, both Chanje and Banda commended good organisation of the competition and their playing partners as the main contributing factor to their success.

“It’s been a while I won a major competition. This I believe this is the best way to announce my comeback. The playing course was perfect and I thank management  of Nchalo golf club for looking after the greens perfectly,” said Chanje.

For her part, Banda said her playing partners gave her a good competition.

“I owe it to my playing partners and they really propelled me to the top. I really enjoyed playing with them. I also thank Airtel for the good organisation of the competition,” said Mbalanje Banda.

In his remarks, Managing Director for Airtel Malawi Charles  Kamoto said his company has always lived up to its core objective o taking the sport of golf to another level.

“This second edition of the golf tournament tour comes straight dyer we held a successful maiden version at Blantyre sports club last month. Not only that, this golf tournament in Nchalo comes fresh after we successfully launched the Airtel fixed Broadband Internet service in a quest to fulfil our commitment to providing premium corporate connectivity,” said Kamoto.

Meanwhile, Kamoto has assured golfers that Airtel will continue to sponsor golf tournaments in the country.
