Chikwawa Central aspirant to promote girl child education

Chikhwawa central independent aspiring parliamentarian in the May 20 tripartite elections, Michael Ndaferankhande has promised to work with parents and traditional leaders in his area to promote girls child to attain quality education.

Ndaferankhande said  in an interview that once he is ushered as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, he would intensify civic education to sensitize the community on the need to abandon some harmful cultural practices which negatively affect girls to attain higher education.

“I will engage the chiefs, school authorities, parents and other duty bearers in my constituency to preach positively on the importance of sending a girl child to school as one way of reducing early marriages which also affects young girls to advance in education,” he said.

He said he would also consolidate the strong existing relationship with companies such as Illovo Sugar Group, Press Cane Limited and Kasinthula Small Holder Sugarcane Growers to intensify corporate social responsibility in the area.

“I will use my powers as a parliamentarian for Chikhwawa Central to lobby companies surrounding the constituency to allocate much resource to developmental projects in the education sector for the construction of girls’ hostels and school blocks,” said Ndaferankhande who is an economist and human resources by professional.

The aspirant has set 2018 as a deadline to make sure that people from his area has access to safe drinking water if he entrusted with parliamentary seat.

He further said he would also engage with non-governmental organizations such as Water Aid, World Vision and Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) to ensure that people are portable water.

The former Inde Bank Head of Human Resources added that he would encourage women to get organized in small groups and provide them with loans to start small scale businesses in order for them to be economically independent.

“I have also strong plans to intensify safe motherhood initiatives to promote women of my constituency to live health lives so that they can be able to run their businesses and families well,” he said.

The youthful candidate said he would rehabilitate Mafale and Ndakwera Health Centres as well as make sure that all dispensaries in the constituency are in full operational with skilled personnel and adequate drugs to save lives of the people.

On food security, Ndaferankhande said irrigation farming can only be the lasting solution to solve persistent hunger in the area through the use of Shire River.

“I would engage companies including Illovo and Kasinthula to bring Shire River to the upland so that subsistence and commercial farmers to utilize irrigation initiatives to harvest more crops for their households and commercial purposes,” he said.
