The First Couple hosted 1,300 children from Lilongwe to a Christmas party.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow children, Princess Nyamali from Kamuzu Barracks thanked the first couple for the Christmas treat.

“We are very thankful to President Mutharika and the First Lady,” said Nyamali.

Nyamali wished the two a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The President and the First Lady sang a few Christmas songs with the children before posing for photographs with them in groups.

The Children were then treated to a meal and drinks before they engaged in various games; and they were later given a Christmas gift each.

I have no problem when grown ups choose to be bootlickers and thank the first couple for that or this. But inviting kids for a meal and making them be “grateful” to the first couple is going over board. Where is this country going? Does the first couple now feel better that small kids have thanked for being given food? Surely there are better ways of politicking…

Mr Man, we are not saying APM did anything bad. What was bad is inviting a kid on the podium to “thank” the president. Was it not impossible just to have the function, and stop at that. You know these things of being thanked for this or that or even when rains fall become addictive. They are as addictive as the presidential red carpet or chamba, no wonder Muluzi had to embroil us on sad term and open term fracas.
