Chimpeni came out in a field of 77 golfers with a net score of 67 to become first winner of the newly introduced Standard Bank monthly mug, played under the banner of the bank’s Pure Save account.

“Today is one of those happy moments. I have never hit 11 pars in one round of golf during my 15-year playing career but today I have done it. I feel happy to be the first winner of the Standard Bank Monthly Mugs  and many thanks to the sponsors for the great prize,” said Chimpeni, who got a K75,000 cheque for opening a Pure Save account at Standard Bank.

On second position was George Chisambo, who counted out teenager Adil Parker on net 72. Chisambo received a K50,000 cheque for opening a Pure Save account with the young chap getting a K30,000 cheque.

Peter Mtema and Adam Sailesi got K20,000 and K15,000 cheques for Pure Save accounts after finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Sawako Nevin, wife to British High Commissioner Michael Nevin concurred the ladies’ section with a net score of 35 to earn a K75,000 deposit into her Pure Save account.

Her runner-up was Mina Mkandawire, who will also see her Pure Save account at Standard Bank earning a K50,000 deposit.

Speaking during the prize presentation ceremony, Standard Bank’s head of business banking Ronald Tembo hailed the golfers for turning up in good numbers.

He said the bank was geared to go all the way up to December next year, when winners of the monthly mugs are expected to battle it out in the grand finale.

Tembo encouraged the golfers to open Pure Save accounts at Standard Bank and earn attractive interests.
