Chindime pays tribute to Samalani: Malawi comedian laid to rest

Comedian Boston Mkhosi, who played Chindime in the Chindime ndi Samalani satires, has paid tribute to one of Malawi’s celebrated character actors, Samalani (Elias Chimbalu) following his death.

Chimbalu (Samalani) was laid to rest Thursday at Kabwabwa Cemetery in Area 25 in Lilongwe after his death from heart complications on Tuesday at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Before his admission, Chimbalu had just successfully completed tuberculosis treatment.

“A mighty tree has fallen,” said Chindime.

He said Samalani role in their satire comedy is irreplaceable after working together for more than 20 years such that they developed mutual understanding.

Chindime described Samalani as “a wonderful comedian.”

He said the death of Samalani is “huge blow” as he is devastated.

“This is one of those times where you say: ‘This just shouldn’t be’,” he said.,adding “I feel so fortunate to have known and worked with Chimbalu.”

Chimbalu was born in 1974 and hailed from Malenga Village in T/A Malenga area in Ntchisi. He is survived by a wife and five children.
