Malawi’s top league-bound Chirumba Barracks are leaving no stone unturned in preparation for their maiden Malawi’s top league life after engaging seasoned coach Stereo Gondwe.
Chirumba Barracks, who missed last season to Mzuzu University after heated fight for promotion finished first in Simama Northern Region Football Association League.
Gondwe confirmed his appointment saying it was an honour for him to be entrusted with the responsibility of taking charge of the team.
He said he would assess the players and make recommendations to the executive committee on the areas which need reinforcement.
“I am humbled that Chirumba Barracks have considered me for the position of coach. It shows the confidence that they have in my ability,” Gondwe said.
“I would work hard so that we should not return to lower league,”Gondwe said.
Gondwe, who has coached a number of Malawi Defence Force teams including Moyale Barracks, Airborne Rangers was sacked at Mafco while the team was doing well due to his involvement with the Malawi national beach soccer.
The outspoken coach defied military discipline to openly criticise top MDF authority allegations that he had resigned.
He said he could not have resigned at a time his charges were leading the league having gone four games unbeaten.
However the lost its pedigree following the sacking of Gondwe.
The team managed to finish second to champions Bullets FC benefitting from the erratic performance of hot title contenders Azam Tigers, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Blue Eagles.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
