Civil servant transferred for cheating minister

Government has transferred Nkhatabay district community development officer Victor Matayataya to Ntchisi district for cheating minister of Local Government and Rural Development Grace Maseko.

Maseko was visiting Comsip projects in Nkhatabay early August and was embarrassed because beneficiaries shunned her despite assurances from Matayataya that the people were ready waiting for her.

“I can confirm to you that Mr. Matayataya has been transferred to Ntchisi following his dubious character that he displayed during the visit of the minister of Local Government. He lied to the minister that Comsip beneficiaries were waiting for her at Chombe and when the minister arrived, there was no single beneficiary,” said an officer at Nkhatabay district council.

The officer said the transfer of Matayataya was a blessing to the district and community in Nkhatabay because he was rejecting transfers.

“He has been at Nkhatabay for 16 years and he was doing most of the things single handedly. For example, he handled the K2 million development implementation plan meant for his office and the social welfare office,” claimed the officer.

A member of the community George Galison expressed happiness at the movement of Matayataya saying he became too powerful and “we were fearing him”.

The media reported that before the minister moved to Chombe Matayataya gave impressive record of Comsip achievements in the district but failed to prove such on the ground.

According to the published story, Maseko looked like a cartoon when the beneficiaries failed to turn up.

The minister, looking embarrassed and angry with Matayataya, directed the entourage to travel to the bridge which Matayataya claimed was flooded with water and made people fail to travel to the venue of the meeting.

The bridge was not over flooded and that infuriated the minister more and Matayataya was seen panicking.

In an interview, Matayataya said he was told of the meeting just two days before the minister”s visit.

He insisted the people failed to come because of the floods.
