Civo threaten to drag Linje to court: Accusing players of ‘theft by trick’

Civo Service United Football Club have threatened to take their case against former player Jabulani Linje a step further if the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) fails to take action on the complaint the club raised to the association over the player.

According to Club General Secretary Rashid Mtelera, Linje pocketed over K800, 000.00 as signing on fee following discussion he had with the club to have his contract extended.

“We had a discussion with the player to extend his contract of which he agreed but immediately after receiving the money, he went on to join Mighty Be Forward Wanderers” said Mtelera.

Mtelera claimed he wrote Sulom over a month ago on the matter but no action has been taken by the Super League governing body.

He said his club has all along wanted the matter to be resolved by following football procedures but if this fails, the player might face “theft by trick” charges through the court of law.

“We still want to pursue this matter by following football procedures but if it fails we will sue the player for theft by trick” warned Mtelera.

Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda who is currently abroad confirmed through an email response on Friday that the matter is being looked into by Sulom before referring this reporter to Sulom Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda who could not immedietely respond.
