NARC: Loveness Gondwe the first female presidential candidate may try her luck in 2014

NARC: Loveness Gondwe the first female presidential candidate may try her luck in 2014

We’ve thought about it a great deal. We’ve taken advice from close friends.

But we haven’t changed our mind.

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has a lot of work to do between now and 2014 or risk losing their majority grip. This coincides well with the English saying; make hay while the sun shines.

They will probably laugh it off as they draw off glasses of whisky and champagne (What with the landslide victory celebrations).

Please follow our argument as we try to convince you of our way of thinking and hopefully you will come in line with us.

The preliminary results from the Census conducted in June 2008, give the total population in Malawi as 13.1 million.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) announced that approximately 5.9 million people registered in the elections that just ended.

This leaves 7.2 million who did not take part in voting; this figure includes minors and others who cannot vote for various reasons.

Let us argue that about 3 million people voted for the incumbent President Bingu wa Mutharika, and about 2.9million voted for the MCP/UDF coalition leader John Tembo and other candidates.

This leaves 7.2 million voters out there for grabs.

If a charismatic, and, well funded person, can go out there and sway these 7 million people (minus minors) he/she will carry the day in 2014, this is without winning over the 3 million loyal supporters for Bingu, the 2.9 million for Tembo and the votes received  by other less significant candidates.

So, DPP must go back to its drawing board and see how they can retain their 3 million followers, while trying to take a share of the 7.2 million people who did not vote.

We do not see any reason why the opposition should panic now; who knows, this undecided 7.2 million may register in 2014 and vote for an opposition leader.

Otherwise, if the opposition waste time being at loggerheads with the government they will face another heavy defeat come 2014.

Instead of wasting time quarrelling with the now godfather of Malawi politics until 2014, Bingu wa Mutharika, the opposition should go into hibernation and formulate new strategies.

“These supporters have concerns but they cannot voice them and be heard so as the president of the MCP I have taken that responsibility and will ensure that the truth is known even by going to court,” statements like this one, from John Tembo, will not help solve the situation at all.

Come up with new charismatic people instead of the same old guards whom we have clearly seen that Malawians do not want.

We are sure that you, the reader, will agree with us that we have given the government plenty of food for thought as they drain their whisky and champagne, but this food will not be wasted by the opposition over their long hibernation to 2014.

    Anthu openga!munakhala bwanji?

  2. angaomwea says:

Wrong arithmetic. Do you realise that the 7.2 million whi did not vote includes ages between 1 to 13 which may not be able to vote in 2014. It is not correct to conclude that the 7.2 million will influence change in 2014. The correct senario is that there will be fewer because others will still be minors. I do not think this is what Loveness is thinking but if is so please advise her that the only way to pull electorates her way is to prove that she can improve lives of people. She will be waisting her time doing arithment which in politics doesnt work. what if the 7,2 m will consider DPP a better party.

It is good thing to start preparing for 2014 election now, but she better sell herself to the people. I for one I dont see a President in Loveness Gondwe. She will die life Tembo. I am sorry to say that.

  3. Chikhamu Rodgers says:

This article sounds meaningless for me. I am not getting any point at all. It’s just like drunk people shouting at the party.
Laugh, draw glasses of whisky and champaign, what is this? How many voted and how many will draw these glasses?
It’s just a white elephant for me.

  4. mwandi says:

  6. CHUMA CHA AZUNGU says:

Koma iwe charity, uli ku Malawi kapena udakaphwanyabe chitaganya chonunkha ndi malemu Kamuzu? How can you mention Cecelia Kadzamira for a president when you know clean that there is an age limit for one to contest as president? Do you know how old Kadzamila is now? Have you seen her of late? Do you want a Malawi with a wheelchair driven president? You must have just heard that there was Kadzamila with Kamuzu but you never saw her. Uwapemphe ambuyako a Tembo kuti akuonetse a Kadzamilawo am sure that after having a glimpse of her you will come to your PC and edit your comment. I dont want to say more about Mama because I respect her very much so dont make me wrong but just ask Tembo to arrange for you to see mama and edit your comment.
