Good article, indeed the “One Love campaign” which was recently launched in Lilongwe coupled with HIV testing should be encouraged to save lives otherwise we will all perish!!!!

I would add that a cure for AIDS is very unlikely any time soon. As we all know we can’t even cure the common cold virus.
I strongly believe HIV really took hold in Malawi in the 70s. A lot of infected people take as long as 10 or more years to show symptoms of AIDS. There was a lot of promiscuity, prostitution and other despicable behaviors such as “gwamula” in the 1970s. Under the rule of Dr Banda women were shipped all over the country to dance for him. A lot of inappropriate sexual behavior happened there. A lot of marriages were destroyed. During independence celebrations a lot of one night stands took place. Famous music bands such as New Scene would be dispatched to different district celebrations and at the end of their performance they would go off into the bush with local girls to have sex. The country was like “a man laying down in the grass while a storm is brewing”.
Well, the storm is here, and it is not going away until we come up until we realize that it is not grant money from the west, wholesale circumcision, or ARVs that will save us. I think the solution is somewhere in our culture before adulteration by western values.

This is a well written article about HIV and AIDS, this trpe of thinking should be encouraged,Yes let us find solutions to this preventable illness, and it is true that we need to target our young ones before they become infected.Nyasatimes encourage this kind of thoughts to be shared with all Malawians.

Its time to solve the problem not speading million of kwacha on discussion when those suffering are even failling to have daily cheap meal(zokambilana ku mangchi,salima)malo abwino kudyaso bwino) eni akhe amene akuvutika ali kumudzi think twise b4 u act ,god will punish us

HIV/AIDS is a disease we can ably defeat. If we can just change our attitude towards sex. We don’t need somebody to tell us to control our libidos. I also think a better idea is to encourage hiv testing when people are in a relationship and not only stressing hiv testing when people are keen on getting married.

A very good article. Also those in the abuse of ARTs through brewing kachasu and using them in animal feeds need our condemnation in the strongest terms possible.
