Chome, It was not only Aleke who owned a news paper in the UDF. Initially the Monitor was owned by Muluzi, Aleke and Thomson and the Managing Editor was Clement Stambuli. Aleke didn’t like the mismanagement by Stambule that’s why he decided to break off to form the Nation.

The Monitor was better placed to get more business from government than the Nation because it was owned by the President, the Nation was owned by a minister, the Monitor died because of mismanagement which Aleke earlier queried, the Nation survived because of sound management, mind you Aleke was the founding editor of Malawi News. People who have worked with Aleke attest that whatever he touches turns to gold. Aleke was taught in prison by Orton Chirwa, Harry Bwanausi and David Rubari. Rubadiri testied that Aleke is one of the most brilliant students that he has ever taught. I’ve said that Robson Chirwa and Munyenyembe were number two in MCP, Malewzi was Vice State President but you don’t hear much about them why?

You and Sembe say Aleke has to get a dose of his medicine why? You seem to suggest that some articles are anti-government because Aleke is out of government, no. The nation published anti-government articles even when Aleke was in government and this is not the first time Aleke has come out in the open to defend the Nation, even when he was castigated by Muluzi he came out to defend the editorial independence of the Nation. I repeat, Aleke is a victim of circumstances because when he was in UDF I was mature enough and educated enough to make my own judgement about him, the guy is simply hard working and brilliant and this arouses petty jealousies from competitors.

Its not time to divide our country and the people in there. Do not comment here if you have such wrong ideas. we use this paper to get information from home, not that no sense ideas of dividing the country.

Haha you make me laugh. So what shall be the name of your country. Atumbuka muziyanga kutsogolo please. Who do you think will be buying uranium in future. The west is actively undertaking research in greener energies. For example they are now developing electricity which can be generated on a motor way as a result of tyre pressure. And is it because of that uranium mining that you feel you can detach yourselves from the rest of the country? Terribly unbalanced thinking!

A name can not change the behaviour of a man who is to hit his eighth decade of living on earth like bingu.Him (bingu) was born and raised a hard and merciless person like that.Even if you can take back that ngwazi title 2 day he wont change.About the synod- sometimes when you are dating a woman(courtship) you cant 100% know what she z made of until one day all her true detrimental colours surface and kick her out of marriage.

This is nothing tribal. As an observer who has been studying african culture for over two decades, this is what I’ve noted: Tongas are the most superior tribe in the north as they define the region despite being a small grouping. Have always been at the centre of the most critical moments both at national and regional level. However the AKB issue is personal and or organisational and not tribal as it could never be. Reason Malawians!!!

I am glad actually that the first to feel Bingu’s beating with that stick are the Livingstonia synod people themselves. man dont try 2 divide the north coz we have the common enemy.Tell me where does matiya nkhoma come from = nkhatabay,and what about mezuwa banda = nkhatabay.leave northeners alone iwe mbuzi ya mano kumwamba.There z no tonga,tumbuka,ngoni,nkhonde,lambia in the north coz we are all northeners,mesa inu mwatikana.One day we will form our own country there and i think economically it will be better off than the current malawi coz the north has a manageable population,enough land,hard working personel,high literacy levels and natural minerals i.e uranium,niobium,Diamonds,coal and i hope the discovely of precious minerals continues.God bless the north!!

Nkhwakwata your arguments are misplaced. Sembe is right. The rest of the cabinet members did not own news papers, Aleke did. Other papers went down under the pretext of castigating government, the Nation was on occasion guilt of the same crime or even worse but it did not go down. It flourished. All this was happening under Alekes’s watch.

This time if Aleke does not interfere with the nitty-gritty’s of the paper then it is not in his place to comment. He should live it to the workforce at the Nation. With him commenting, he will just render the whole issue political hence the past kicking in.

Personally I detest the though t of the Nation going down. I feel it for all the people working there. However this is a business and not a government aided development project. While maintaining their freedom to report without fear and favour, the Nation has to learn the tricks of doing business with government. You bite some you blow some. Don’t just go all out on the offence and expect a hand shake, it does not work. At least not in this life time.

Aleke has to get a dose of his own medicine.
