Come dine with me: APM invites Malawi Queens for ‘mapwevupwevu’ on Dec 12

State House Press Office has announced the shifting of dates of a luncheon Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) organised with the Malawi National Senior Netball Team ‘The Queens’ to Monday, December 12, 2016.

The President was supposed to host the victorius Queens this coming Friday 9th December 2016 at the Sanjika Palace in the Commercial City of Blantyre.

State House Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Mgeme KaliLani confirmed the changes in an interview with Nyasa Times on Wednesday afternoon.

“The team was given audience opportunity/luncheon on 9th December, 2016 at Sanjika Palace unfortunately,  we have been communicated by sports authorities  that , that day has clashed with a Presidential Sports tournament final activities  in Lilongwe” said KaliLani.

He said the communication his office has received indicates that some Queens players who were part of the team that travelled to Melbourne will be involved in the tournament hence the change of dates.

“As such the luncheon  has been shifted to later date to be communicated” Kalilani said.

Mutharika pledged to host the Queens in October this year following the teams excellent and outstanding perfomance at the 2016 Fast5 World Netball Championship hosted by Australia.

The team finished a record third place in the World and regained its position as number one team on the African Continent.

The triump prompted Malawians to accord the team a heroes welcome on their return led by their ex-official sponsors Airtel Malawi.

Airtel announced it will not renew its sponsorship after a three year romance with the nation’s flag carriers.

The company announced last month that their objective was to help make netball flourish and at the end of their three year agreement, it was satisfied to witness its investment bearing fruits and objectives achieved.
