Corporate Networking Launch: Airtel, TNM register teams

An early bird catches the worm. Mobile network giants Airtel Malawi and TNM have registered their teams for the Corporate Networking 5-A-Side Soccer League launching tournament scheduled for Silver Stadium this coming Saturday.

A total of 32 teams have been earmarked for the launching tournament, which is expected to be spiced up by a live music performances by soldier Lucious Banda with his Zembani Band and the Soul Raiders.

Amongst the teams expected to feature in the day-long 5-A-Side tournament is a South African based side- Nyau Stars, which has players from Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe and other nations.

The team was founded by Malawians living in South Africa and has been active in South African 5-A-Side leagues and tournaments.

Giving an update on the tournament, chairman of Corporate Networking Sports Francis Muleso said all the preparations were going on well and they were expecting an event full of fun.

“It’s a family event and people are encouraged to come with their families because there will also be jumping castle and other children games,” said Muleso flanked by his country manager Hannah Malangwasira and legal advisor Tione ‘Atate’ Namanja.

On the tournament itself, the three officials said the main aim was to drum up support and raise awareness for the Corporate Networking 5-A-Side Soccer League, which the company will be sponsoring in Lilongwe from next year.

“After the Saturday launch, we are going to set up structures for 5-A-Side football in Lilongwe before commencement of the league early next year. After setting up the structures in Lilongwe, we are going to focus on Blantyre, where we will also have structures and a league,” said Muleso.

Before the tournament on Saturday, Corporate Networking Sports will be holding a referees’ course for 5-A-Side soccer at Kamuzu Institute of Sports.

Registration for the tournament has been pegged at K40,000 per team and so far close to 20 teams are reported to have registered. Notable on the list of registered teams are Airtel, TNM, OIBM, UN and Lab Enterprise.

The winning team is set to walk out with K200,000 with the runners up pocketing K50,000. Entry fee at the stadium is K2,000 per head.

20 teams have registered with a fee of 40 grand, translating into 800 grand.
The winning team 200 grand runners up 50 grand. True? 550 grand is as usual for administration, isn’t it? Wah! Aphalemwe mwandigopsya maningi. Chii! Anaza geti-tu iyi.

Ehe! after Blantyre launch you will say, ” we have completely launched the 5 A side football tournament country wide” this is the disease that is also affecting us to develop. You leave the third biggest city and you call it country wide launch. As long as the North is neglected, Malawi will never develop, GOD is not man.
