Criminal gang kill 70 year-old woman in Mulanje

Police in Mulanje are currently hunting for unknown criminals who killed a 70-year-old woman, Ida Chikomoni in an act of robbery on Wednesday night.

The criminals also severely injured the deceased’s husband, Fred Masa, 74, currently receiving treatment at Mulanje district hospital.

Mulanje police Public Relations Officer, Gresham Ngwira said the wanted criminals went away with Lifo motorcycle and undisclosed amount of money.

”On Thursday morning one of the family workers was surprised that his boss wasn’t coming out to give him the day’s instructions,” said Ngwira.

Adding: ”He and some people went into the house to check only to find Ida Chikomoni dead with stabs on her body while the husband was also lying down with stabs in the head”.

Post-mortem done at Mulanje district hospital revealed that Chikomoni died due to intracranial haemorrhage.

Chikomoni came from Chitimbe village, T/A Mkanda in the district.

”Investigations are underway and we are calling upon all people of good will to help us with any information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals”.

So this is a new trend in Malawi. Last month in Blantyre an elderly couple was also viciously attacked in the middle of night, unfortunately they both died.
I suggest its high time the community declare war on criminals else this will get out of hand. Remember when there were rumours of blood suckers, it took the community unity to put a stop to it. Government is not capable of dealing with this crisis.

Eish, too bad. However, it is imperative to critically look into pushing factors for the rise of criminal activities in the country. Surely, there must be fire for smoke’s appearance
