Dominant Diamonds secure big win over Young Professionals in Rainbow Paints
Kukoma Diamonds proved they are still top dogs in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League — even with their captain Caroline Ngwira absent, the cooking oil ladies went on rampage on Saturday as they hammered Young Professionals 139-12.
The victory at Blantyre Youth Centre was step one in the Diamonds campaign on their mission to clinch the league after maintaining a clean sheet this season.
“The goal is to win all the matches,” is coach Griffin Saenda’s mantra for the 2016 season.
Minus Captain Caroline Ngwira who is on maternity leave, the Diamonds still dominated every aspect of the match which saw Jessica Sanudi and Sarudzai Gondwe enjoying their top form.
“It was cool,” said Sanudi, a key member in the Diamonds squad, who is also fast coming one of the dangerous shooters in the country.
Sharpshooter Sanudi scored more than 30 for the Diamonds in the first half with Gondwe another sniper in netting baskets.
But it was Anabel Phiri, who starred for the Diamonds in her fifth match since she joined the Blantyre based out-fit from Lameck Queens.
Under vastly experienced coach Saenda, Diamonds appears both fitter and faster in both quarters comparing with the rookies, who looked jittery and lacking experience.
In other matches, Tigresses showed no mercy, as they went on to beat Chilomoni Sisters 91-19, while Alliance Capital Stars clipped Gerald Tasaukadala 96-25.
In the last match of the day, Chitakale Sisters lost 24-84 to much improved Prison Sisters.
