DPP, PP in power struggle in Lower Shire

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Peoples Party (PP) are engaged in bitter power struggle in Chikhwawa – the Lower Shire –  as the former is trying to asset its authority in opposition dominated development committees.

Chikhwawa South MP Elias Karim faulted the DPP for unceremoniously dissolving area development committees and village development committees and putting ruling party loyalists on the positions.

Karim is PP member of parliament.

“The DPP has removed some officials and replaced them with party cadres. They have also reshuffled Admarc committees and added DPP functionaries on the committees. This is very bad,” said Karim.

DPP district governor Jimmy Zakeyu confirmed that the party has indeed reshuffled area and village development committees and also Admarc committees in the Lower Shire district.

“These committees were dominated by the opposition, by PP officials. Instead of discussing development issues, they were busy frustrating government development agenda, they were busy castigating and insulting the head of state.  Even the MP Karim was part of these people insulting President Peter Mutharika,” said Zakeyu.

Karim has since refuted the allegations that he insults the President saying to the contrary, he respects the head of state.

PP is now crying foul. Have you so soon forgotten that you also ordered the dissolution of VDCs and ADCs when you accidentally came into power on the pretext that these committees were dominated by DPP which was then in the opposition? Leave DPP alone as you are reaping what you sowed.

The biggest problem is Kasaila. I thought that the President gave him the Cabinet Minister to rally for DPP in the Lower shire? Kasaila is failing to gain ground miserably. Lower shire used to be a home of DPP but now it can be any bodies home.
