The accident occurred at Bua as Kudontoni was travelling to Kasungu for political errands.

Kudontoni, who once served as a member of parliament in the United Democratic Front regime, died instantly, according to police.

“When doctors checked him there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse, no cardiac activity,” an eye witness said.

He was appointed DPP secretary general by President Peter Mutharika after the elected holder of the post, Minister of Gender, Jean Kalirani was unceremoniously removed.

President Peter Mutharika is “extremely saddened” and shocked by the demise of Kudontoni, according to DPP spokesman Francis Kasaila.

“His demise is a major loss for the party,” he said.

Malawi has some of the most dangerous roads in the world and accidents continue to claim lives of many people.

Kwacha Malawi, you are the one who is lost don’t speak nonsense here, haven’t you read that this SG was going to Kasungu for Political errands. If you are intelligent enough tell us what is political errands. This is associated with Politics I think Kwacha Malawi you are just childish and you don’t know Malawi politics. Ask people those who were there when late Gwanda and Former IG late Lunguzi were in the same vehicle that overturned and killed Lunguzi at the spot. Both were also going for political arerands in Kasungu. Also both were ambitious to take over from Kamuzu but they just wanted to test each other who was stronger than the other to take over from the Ngwazi Alidzi. Its Politics, if you are holding those positions you don’t travel unnecelarily no that is the reason there are regional Chairmen /or governors to run the party and this could be avoided. These are avoidable depending if you are not greedy politician and are able to delegate that’s fine.

Goodman you are very stupid person. Is any connection road accident death and politics? Munthu opanda nzeru iwe, imfa imapweka ikakhala kwa anzako dikirani madzi apite ndi pamene uziti ndadala. You said Results of power struggle in dpp. The hapuwani agreement has started bearing fruits already – See more at: http://www.nyasatimes.com/dpp-secretary-general-kudontoni-killed-car-crash/#sthash.kMleFmeG.dpuf. Stupid person and ungrateful citizen. Stop mixture up politics and death, tomorrow we hear your relatives pass on, what should you say. If you don’t any word to comment, leave it others intelligent people. Let God take its course not any man can describe it. Remember Goodman, God set aside how human being would receive their call, whether its road accident, sickness, stub, witchcraft etc! Kudontoni May his soul rest in peace

its sad that he has died while serving the DPP

  4. Pope Francis says:

Its like death of a top HAMAS official, tiyeni tisangalare ndithu. No sympathy at all. It seems that he had put ndale before everything nde zikatero its a double tragedy. May his death serve as a lesson to top politicians that death ilibe kuti uyu ndi ndani. If you hear the voice of the Lord today, you should not harden your hearts

  5. CHEMBYE WAMKULU says:

Rest in Peace Hon. KUDONTONI. You were a good Man.

  6. Mwananyanian says:

The Big Man is gone. RIP!!! (“P” with the exclamations because you were peaceful).
It is one thing to criticize the man, professionally, but it is uncouth to celebrate his death as some posters are doing. And desultorily, I might add.
How good are seat belts in our cars, and how often are victims found not having had a seat belt on? These are some of the pertinent questions Police should be addressing, because elsewhere, even next door countries, many people do survive, and even thrive, after accidents where the vehicle is a write off. Regardless of the road conditions.
Finally, notice how his Party, DPP, is not advancing conspiracy theories. If Mr Kudontoni was MCP or PP, there would by now be so many “fwe fwe fwes” (baseless accusations) that DPP conspired in the death. But DPP does not see everything through a political lens.

  8. Douglas Ndindi says:

Late Kudontoni was a Malawian first and a DPP member second. Regardless of his and our political orientation, the fact is that Malawi has lost a prominent citizen as well as a prominent politician. Whether we realize it or not, and regardless of which side of the political divide we belong to, it’s people like this man who make politics interesting. May his soul RIP.

    1. Ramsy says:

You can say that again, Douglas.

  9. Nsipe-Bawi says:

Death of a person evokes grief and elicits tears. But death of DPP members conjures hope and wipes off tears of economic misery from the face of Malawians. Malawi has nothing to lose in the loss of DPP machinery.

  14. Kalira Wa Muhahaliwa says:

Am not convinced that it was natural accident. May be ask those people around the area where accident happened. Something missing here: the exact place of accident, the exact time of accident, who was with him, how it happened, the picture of him on the middle of the road and where the car is doesn’t add up, the way he looks like on the road it’s as if it was hit and run. Some information is not straight here. Me as a Malawian and dedicated member of our mighty DPP am not convinced yet on the circumstances surrounding his death

“We all die. And the purpose of life is not to live forever (coz its not possible). But to create something that will.” – Chuck Palahniuk. Something, people shall remember us for.
. . . You see, when a person dies, he/she is remembered differently by different people. And as a father, a husband, a loyal party official etc, Kudontoni shall certainly be remembered.
    ………………………………………………………………………
But, shall some of us not remember Kudontoni as a man who was so loyal to his party and overzealous about his position, that he would be loose with his tongue, sometimes? Kodi inu . . .
. . . Is it not Kudontoni who [on 6th March, 2015] demanded that all CEOs for statutory corporations should support the ruling DPP [whatever the meaning] and that those who do not support it, would face political consequences”?
. . . What did this signal, if not a spririt of self enrichment and abuse of power hence death of reason?
    ………………………………………………………………………..
    You see . . .
. . . “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.” – Norman Cousins. And truth be told, reason and wisdom died inside Kudontoni awhile ago.
. . . As such, whether one shall feel sorry (on Kudontoni’s demise) or not, is a matter for another day’s discussion. But what we know is that if in this world are people of courage, then those who top the list are undertakers [people whose business is preparing dead bodies for burial or cremation and making arrangements for funerals]. These are stone-hearted people.
. . . Now, “Let us endevour so to live that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry.” – Mark Twain
