DPP snub Kabwila, Chirambo, Ngalande: BJ, Mvula, Phoya, Bwanali, Chikuni, Mwawa ‘on pending’

The governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has rejected some politicians who wanted to join the party and is considering others  on whether to admit them in the rank and file, party spokesman has confirmed.

Accoridng to a list of people which DPP has rejected include suspended Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila  and former adviser to late president Bingu wa Mutharika, Bessie Chirambo.

Kabwila has been rejected while MCP’s second deputy director for strategic planning Felix Jumbe has been approved to join DPP.

The ruling party has also snubbed Tony Ngalande of Balaka

DPP spokesman Francis Kasaila said the party had a process to vet members who wanted to join it and approved those that have been welcomed on Sunday at a rally.

“Those that were not acceptable we came to a conclusion that we should not approve their membership,” said Kasaila.

DPP has also put on pending names of some recycled politicians intending to join the party.

They include Brown Mpinganjira, Humphrey Mvula, Henry Phoya, Phillip Bwanali, Ireen Chikuni and Yusuf Mwawa, according to a list seen by Nyasa Times.

Meanwhile, Happy Kayuni, a political scientist based at Chancellor College in Zomba, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (Unima), has said the defectors to DPP have no value to add to the party.

He told Capital Radio’s Daybreak Malawi program on Tuesday that DPP is “doing nothing so unique” that should attract membership.

Kayuni said those joining DPP are “pursung their own personal agenda.Nothing to do with really what Malawians are facing currently.”

During the Sunday rally some  nomadic politicians who were unveiled as members of the DPP included  former People’s Party (PP) publicity secretary Ken Msonda, former deputy speaker of Parliament, Jones Chingola, former minister of Foreign Affairs Etta Banda and former lawmaker  of MCP who served as deputy minister in previous governments of  DPP and PP, Bintony Kutsaira.

Others were former Chipani Cha Pfuko (CCP) president, Davis Katsonga, who is also Member of Parliament for Mwanza Central, Zomba Ntonya MP, Patrick Makina, and Lilongwe City Centre MP, David Bisnowatty.

The nomadic politicians are stranding themselves politically as the voters might not look at defections kindly.
Politicians, please learn to strengthen your own parties in victory as well as in failure. That is what democracy means. People should not change parties like shirts.

Mr Happy Kayuni if you say that these guys will add nothing to the party then you are not fit to be a political scientist. Politics is a game of numbers. Do you really think these guys have no one who speaks good of them that they cannot be followed in DPP? Remember that we are talking about defectors to the ruling party not to the opposition. And the DPP guys are just looking for additional numbers which will have an impact on the presidential votes which Besnowatty, Kuntsaira, Msonda, and all the others will surely give to the dpp… Read more »

Wa mwale, in politics what matters is not the class which the voter is, but it is the vote that counts. Their vote will be counted as ONE VOTE no more no less. The weight of that vote will be the same as that of Chakwera or Kamlepo. Mr Kaleya, it looks like you don’t know what politics is. You are talking about Western politics you forget that this is Malawi where politicians are not trusted. You are seeing this happening below your nose yet you keep on defending politicians. YOU are a blind follower.

This story has been fabricated by MCP Chakwera strategists in order to undermine and dilute Jessie Kabwira’s political muscle as a rejected polictician at both MCP and DPP.

Chakwera mwa gwa nayo. Kabwira is here to take leadership of MCP by its horns.

You really meant prospects would be better for MCP if Ms Kabwira-Kapasula was the leader of MCP? When did she even come close to demonstrating political acumen? Leading demos at Chirunga is but minor league. I knew many MCP members were reckless, but I didn’t expect them to be suicidal.

Imaginary story – unfortunately you have goofed on Kabwila. She is too intelligent to be associated with DPP – DPP is too dirty for her to be near it. She can actually faint if she comes near it
