DPP officials,Vincent Ghambi,Keneth Sanga (C) and Vuwa Kaunda: Confirm the parry ferried supporters to political rally on government vehicles

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)  regional governor in the Northern Region Kenneth Sanga has contradicted government spokesperson Patricia Kaliati by admitting that newspaper reports were accurate that the party ferried supporters to the Chitipa  political rally using taxpayer’s money.

Kaliati, who is also Minister of Information, accused Malawi News for what she called sensational reporting “to claim these are old-habits-die-hard” for DPP when it reported about the matter, rejecting that it was fabrication.

But DPP’s north governor Sanga said actually the story was credible.

He said it was actually Minister of Sports and Culture Grace Chiumia who used the vehicle to carry a party affiliated musical grouping to the rally.

Sanga conceded that a government vehicle also carried party supporters to the rally.

“It has come to my attention that the government vehicle carried the party supporters. However, the party did not ask for any government vehicles to the rally but it was Obama [Grace Chiumia] who did,” said Sanga as quoted by Daily Times, a sister title of Malawi News.

Inu a Chilungamo, the issue here is not who knew about or authorized the use of the government vehicle. The issue is whether a government vehicle was used or not. And now it is clear that it was. Simple! The problem is that this is a disease which will not end any time soon because the truth is that ALL PARTIES which have ruled Malawi have done it. And I dare challenge you that ALL PARTIES which will rule will do it. Malawian politics!

Nyasatimes reporters like sensationalizing everything. The heading is misleading. If you read the story in the daily times and the nation newspaper it is clear that Obama Chiumia requested for the use of the government vehicle without DPP gurus knowing. What Kaliati said was correct because the party did not authorize use of any government vehicle. This is being alluded to by the North Governor. Obama herself also accepted that she requested the use of the vehicle in her own right from a local government department. There is no contradiction whatsoever here. The reporters should have done a thorough research… Read more »

Surely Obama is a senior member of DPP and should know that that was wrong and best DPP can do is say the’re sorry and advise their members that this should not happen again. When we say DPP we know very well that it is specific people who abuse these resources using the party’s position in the country. Inu a chilungamo are you sure that if Kanlepo Kalua had asked for this vehicle to ferry a singing group to a PP meeting it would have been released. We all know that you are not being honest to yourself despite using… Read more »

SANGA WANTS MINISTERS NOT TO INTERFERE WITH HIS WORK. IT WAS NOT UP TO GRACE CHIUMIA TO MOBILIZE PARTY SUPPOTERS AND USE GOVT RESOURCES.

CHIUMIA SHOULD MIND THE GAP!

THANKS FOR BEING HONEST SANGA.

WE THE CIVIL SERVANTS WANT TO SEE THIS COMING TO AN END. IF YOU WANT US TO BE DOING THINGS “BUSINESS AS USUAL” WAY, JUST TELL US. WE ARE READY TO DISOWN THE REFORMS!
