Eagles owe players Malawi Carlsberg Cup money

Reports indicate that Malawi Police Service (MPS) football outfit Blue Eagles has not yet paid its players their share from the K7 million Carlsberg Cup prize.

The team won 1-0 against Escom United in the final match played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe about two weeks ago.

Nyasa Times sources reveal that the players have spent Christmas without any allowances prompting some of them to show distaste through some facebook postings.

One of the posts on Facebook read: “Christmas without money which we already made (on the Carlsberg Cup final match) is very painful. But they don’t know we got responsibilities, even our parents are counting on us.”

However, an official who did not want to be named assured the players that they will be paid their money.

“It was just a matter of communication breakdown. They are going to get their money,” he said without indicating the time frame.

But one of the players said they have received communication to the effect that their cut will be paid on 7th January 2013 after the two-week government Xmas holiday.
