On Wednesday, Airtel took the romance deep in Mzimba to Edingeni Community Day Secondary School where it gave the institution 85 desks worth over Mk2.2 million.

“We hope this sets a good example of our undying passion for the betterness of the education sector. We sincerely hope that helping the disadvantaged and caring for education will become the common undertaking of all the different sectors including the corporate players,” Airtel’s Public Relations and Corporate Manager Edith Tsirizani said during the handover event.

Tsirizani noted that with education, communities were destined for greatness thereby contributing comprehensively to sustainable national development.

According to Tsirizani, education is the hope for a greater good of the nation as it brews and grooms its human resource.

“Today, we want to reaffirm our recognition that this country’s hope relies on young people and that the youth’s hope relies on education. Certainly, Airtel, as well meaning corporate citizen, would like to add vibe to this symbiotic hope,” she said.

In his remarks, Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa said the donation has been made timely as most of the students at the school scrambled for only 37 dilapidated desks that were in use.

He hailed Airtel for the donation and further appealed for assistance to facelift the institution’s infrastructure.

“Airtel is a true friend, a responsible corporate partner. Your donation speaks volumes of your commitment to uplifting standards and the welfare of people in Malawi. Keep it up and we do not take it for granted,” said the Inkosi.

The chief also urged his subjects to promote girl child education, zero school drop out tolerance and total participation in communal projects.

He then appealed to government to elevate the school into a full boarding secondary school.

Edingeni Secondary School was constructed by villagers in 1992 and it has a catchment area of a radius of over15kms.
