Lucius Banda UK concert tickets selling as hot cakes
Organisers of Malawi’s music icon, Lucius Banda’s concert in the United Kingdom have started selling tickets for the show and have indicated that there is an overwhelming response from people.
Banda will perform at the UK concert for the first time in eight years at a show to be held in Nottingham.
“Many people are buying tickets online and others have reserved the tickets,” said Steve Johnson one of the directors of Southern Africa Cultural (SAC) Events.
Sac Events is organizing the show which will be held on Saturday 20 September 2008 at Marcus Garvey Ballroom, Marcus Garvey Centre, Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham NG7 2BY.
Johnson said pre-purchase of tickets is costing £30 and that during the day of the show it will be hiked to £35. Tickets can be bought by visiting SAC Events website at: www.sacevents.co.uk/tickets.html.
He said the venue of the show has a capacity of getting 600 patrons and that they are expecting to fill up the hall.
The organizers have also arranged to bus patrons from London, Northampton and Manchester to the show.
SAC Events said Lucious Banda’s popularity has not only attracted his country folks living in the UK but that other Africans and British people are eager to witness his live performance.
Johnson said the Malawian music king pin will arrive to the UK on September 17 and has been booked at a hotel in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, Sac Event writes on their website that “a time when most artists are shying away from positive vibes, Lucius Banda, is carrying on the torch with his brand of African reggae.”
The orgnisers say “his lyrics touch on everyday life experiences”. “Lucius has been in the music business in his native Malawi since the 1980s, starting with the Alleluyah Band, singing gospel songs and experimenting with other forms of music.
“Reggae got the best of him in the 1990s, when he formed the Zembani band, and he hasn't slowed down since. What differentiates Lucius from other artists is the freshness of his songs and his strong vocals,” reads a statement on Sacs Events website.
Lucius also traveled to the UK in 2000 for a series of performances. “
Those who have witnessed his live performances say it's pure excitement. Lucius brings down the house as he lets loose the people's favourite songs,” said the statement.
