Kci & Jojo performance in Malawi rescheduled
News that celebrated USA R&B duo of Kci & Jojo (Hailey Brothers) were performing in Malawi two months ago was everywhere in the country and honestly speaking, the concert's organizers O-towne Records exhausted all necessary avenues to market the event and they definitely succeeded, unfortunately the show did not take place as the singers never showed up.
Different questions were asked on why the pair failed to arrive for the concert, which was scheduled to take place in the Capital City at Lilongwe Golf Club. Diverse reasons were given, but the whole truth was twisted, according to O-towne Records Chief Executive Officer Jordan Mlotha.
Speaking to Nyasa Times, the head of the company explained, "The whole truth about the postponement of that concert was misrepresented, nobody came to interview me except for BBC, and [Nyasa Times] will be the first to let the people know what really happened."
Mlotha said the Ugandan promoter they were working with in the Kci & Jojo show treated them unjustly.
"Because he had the celebrities in Uganda, he felt he could have more money. He wanted us to pay more. Our colleagues in Tanzania paid US$8,000 just to make sure Kci & Jojo played in the country, and he wanted the same for Malawi but he was scared to put up that to me because he knows am straight-up and he decided to play hide and seek, he could not answer his phone, and he ended up misplacing the itineraries and the artists never got them in time," said Mlotha.
"This whole process left us panicking until the eleventh hour when we were told by airliners that the duo was coming, they had changed their itineraries, we were there at Kamuzu International Airport waiting for them but they never showed up. This was so unfair, as we ended up paying a lot of money for promotions and I lost a huge sum of money, which I can't get but the only funds I could get back was the money I paid to Kci & Jojo," he explained.
However, the promoter disclosed that Kci & Jojo would be coming to perform in Malawi on 14th and 25th June in the cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe respectively.
Mlotha went on to explain that he is considering flying the sensational American artists into the country at least four days before the first show, depending on the availability of flights, so that they do interviews to convince the fans who were let down in March, and simultaneously experiencing the ambiance of the Warm Heart of Africa.
"The public will have to hear it directly from Kci & Jojo on time and time basis that they are coming into the country and what I expect is that Malawians will want to see them on the ground to buy tickets, which I think is understandable and is something that you must see to believe.
"Their arrival will be based on the availability of flights but I want to get them in at least by 10th of June, and in the meantime we are busy working on flight bookings to make sure that all is set. We have to give their itinerary by June 1st because I like to work things in advance and make sure they are done properly," he explained.
Apart from Malawi, the promoter said after the country's concerts, the Hailey Brothers will also perform in a number of southern African countries including Zambia, Angola as well as Mozambique, and this will be the best way for the nations to do it as they have something to prove as regards to 2010, when Republic of South Africa will be hosting the FIFA World Cup.
