Lucius Banda jets in UK for shows

lucius bThis is it! Malawi’s music super star Lucius ‘Soldier’ Banda arrived in the United Kingdom on Thursday morning to perform with his Zembani Band.

Arriving 9 am through London’s Heathrow Airport, the Malawi music icon said he was “delighted” to be back in the United Kingdom for shows and promised “thrills”.

“I am delighted to be back. Fans should expect good performance and there will be thrills,” said Banda fondly called ‘Soldier’

“I have travelled with a contingent of Zembani band. We are geared to give Malawians in the UK a treat to take them closer home,” he said.

“Last time we did not come with Jane (the dancing queen) but now she has made it. It’s going to good, good performance,” said Soldier.

He first performs in Nottingham on July 4.

The supremely gifted musician said the hot weather will also be a positive contribution to the band to perform well.

“The weather is very good. We feel like we are in Malawi and the band members will not be affected. There is no need to acclimatize, every member of Zembani is geared for the show,” he said.

Syny Theu of BJ Promotions said the Malawian music icon will perform in Nottingham at Notting Harden Sports Complex, Wigman road NG8 4PB. The show will start from 7pm and finishes at 5am.

“The show will be part of the 45th Independence celebrations for Malawi. This will give an opportunity for Malawians in the UK to celebrate their independence with the music show of top most singer,” said Theu.

She also disclosed that Lucius will perform at the show which will be combined with a beauty pageant for Malawians in diaspora.

“There will also be a Miss Malawi UK competition during the night of the show,” said the organiser.

She said about 15 girls with ages from 16 to 30 years will be taking part in the pageantry.

“The prize for Miss Malawi UK is £1,000. There will also be the prize for the best outfit which will be £200. The first and second princes will get £500 as their prize money,” she said disclosing that charges to the show will be £27.50.

Banda said he will also perform in other venues but could not give details.
