Malawian songstress Wendy Harawa is in Zambia where she will this Friday night grace the third edition of ZNBC’s Born and Bred music video awards scheduled to take place at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

Born and Bred is the local music video show on ZNBC TV aimed at promoting Zambian music and over 40 artistes are under nomination for the awards this year.

Wendy, who left Malawi for the neighboring Zambia on Wednesday, is the only foreign guest artiste invited to perform and present an award.

The Malawian queen told Nyasa Times in an interview from Zambia on Thursday that she felt very honoured to grace the colourful award show, which dedicated to Zambian singer Lily T who died on September 14.

“I feel very honoured that out of all the other artists in other countries, they picked me a Malawian.”

Currently working on her new album, Wendy says performing with Zambia’s great musicians such as Mampi, Runell, Ozzy, JK and Roberto, among others, encourages her to work harder in her music.

“There will be all the cream here performing, so with my album on the way all this gives me better preparation,” she says.

Zambia’s celebrated artist Danny in a separate interview describes the Malawian female star as “multi-talented and never fails to impress”.

As he in jest says “one day we [Zambians] will steal her”, Danny indicates “the whole Lusaka is excited” with her presence, adding Wendy’s invitation to Zambia symbolizes “a good network for us artists as Africa [and] that type of thing lifts us.”

This is the second time in two months for Wendy to grace music video awards show outside Malawi; on October 29 she was in South Africa with rapper Tay Grin for the 2009 Channel O Music Video awards as nominees for their track ‘Moto’.

Speaking on her coming album, which was supposed to be released before end of this year but has been pushed to February next year, she reveals “[It] will be delayed [because] I don’t want to share sales with Lucius Banda who has just released [his latest album 15-15]”.wendy-harawa_alx04481
