The 2009 M-net Face of Africa grand finale will be taking place this Saturday night in the western city of Lagos, Nigeria and Malawi’s own daughter Cathy Kamthunzi is among Africa’s top 10 fashion designers to dress the 10 finalists.

23-year-old Kamthunzi, 2009 Celebrity Fashion Show and Miss Tourism Malawi best fashion designer was picked by FOA organizers to dress 21-year-old Nigerian Blessings Bassey (pictured).

Other designers at this year’s finale include John Kaveke (Kenya), David Tlale (South Africa), Kofi Ansah (Ghana), Anna Getaneh (Ethiopia), Anisa Mpungwe (Tanzania), Gloria WavaMunno (Uganda), Chakirra Claasen (Namibia), Koketso Chiepe (Botswana), Liz Ogumbo (Kenya), Taibo Bacar (Mozambique) and Angela Mulenga (Zambia).

Initially, the Malawian designer was expected to be at the show personally, however, only her outfit will be representing the southern African country due to school engagements.

“The event is on Saturday and I go to school on Saturdays as well that’s why I couldn’t make it to Nigeria,” she told Nyasa Times in an interview this week.

A student at the University of Malawi, Polytechnic, where she is doing marketing, Kamthunzi said, “It don’t matter I haven’t made it to Nigeria in person but as long as my outfit qualified and will be representing my country, it’s all good.”

She added: “Being the first Malawian designer among top 10 designers in Africa is no mean achievement, it’s a dream come true and I know my outfit will speak for me and my country.”

This year, M-net Face of Africa (episode 14) winner will get US$50,000 plus a modeling contract with O Model Africa, which is headed by the first Face of Africa winner, Oluchi Onweagba.

  2. Heather says:

I like your english girl (lol)…. I do understand you are young … but try to use business language… you are a professional, international business person for that matter… just stop using that street language when you are being interviewed by the media.
(Dont hate me, its just a piece of advice. I love you).

    • Jewel says:

heather the girl’s English is very fine and is in actual fact very appropriate for the interview…even the professionals know that at certain times, one uses simple and her saying ‘its all good’(which by the way was the only slang i noticed) it is perfectly fine!!!

    • Yobu 10:10 says:

Heather, these are difernt days my man/woman/tio/animal… (whatever you gender you are, you never know these days). Business people text each other nowaday, everything is got to be done fast man. It is people like you who think about being employed that should worry about those things. Creative people like our lady of wisdom here cannot be boxed up in formality. Don’t late the queen control the way you talk, she is in England man….Just a quick one to wake you up, bye!!
