Nyasa Times understands that Mdechi received the said sum of money allegedly on behalf of Epac F.C from two lower league clubs without the knowledge of the club.

The money was meant for travel expenses for Epac to visit Dowa District to play friendly matches against the two clubs that provided the cash.

Epac F.C Chairman Trickson Chiutsi confirmed the development on Tuesday.

“It is true that the committee has suspended the General Secretary following a meeting that was held at around 12 noon [Monday] and the G.S was invited unfortunately he told us that he will not make it” said Chiutsi.

“He received money amounting to 90,000.00 and 32,000.00 from the two clubs respectively on agreement that Epac will travel to Dowa to play the two clubs. The teams came asking for Mr. Mdechi and when they introduced the subject, we called Mr. Mdechi and he admitted receiving the money and promised to refund,” explained Chiutsi.

According to Chiutsi, the decision to suspend the G.S was arrived at to distance the club from the allegations that they received the money.

“We have decided to suspend him so that we clean ourselves and to give him a chance to sort out the issue with the teams and there after we see the way forward,” he said.

Mdechi has denied swindling the money and said he will respond to the allegations.
