Ex-ACB boss Kaliwo appointed MCP secretary general

Former Anti Corruption Bureau director Gustave Kaliwo has been appointed secretary general of the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) replacing  Chris Daza who joined Peoples Party and was appointed minister of Good Governance

MCP president Lazarus Chakwera made the appointment after announcing vice president Richard Msowoya as his running mate in the May 20 presidential race.

Another appointment went to  former UNFPA official who is a trained nurse, Juliana Lunguzi as a member of the party’s national executive committee.

The appointments were announced no Malawi Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday during its news bulletin.

Kaliwo, an ex-police officer-turned-private lawyer, was suspended by late president Bingu wa Mutharika just hours after he charged former  president Bakili Muluzi with 42 counts of graft, theft and abuse of office.

He was later forced to resign.

Kaliwo’s resignation came shortly after late Mutharika ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ishmael Wadi, to “honourably resign” for withdrawing the corruption charges against Muluzi.  The case against Muluzi, which was instigated under a political cloud with the voice of late Mutharika heard in a leaked audio ordering Kaliwo to “shake” Muluzi,  was resumed and has dragged on.
