In a bid to give back to the school that helped them shape their future, former students of Malamulo Secondary School in Makwasa, Thyolo have formed Alumni association that will help the school in all key areas of learning and recreation.
According to Timothy Sukali who is currently the Interim Publicity Secretary of the grouping, Malamulo Secondary School has churned out lots of people who are in influential positions and have always wanted to give back to the school but because of poor coordination of activities, most of them have failed.
“It was on this understanding that what was originally a social media group has evolved into the real thing with an interim steering committee formed,” Sukali told Nyasa Times.
The Alumni aims to assist the school grow further academically, spiritually, structually and socially by among other things buying much needed books for the School library, Learning materials, Lab equipment, Sports equipment(s)and where necessary supporting the accommodation needs at both the Girls and Boys hostels.
Malamulo Secondary School is one of the oldest institutions in Malawi having been established as Malamulo College in 1902.
The Interim Committee has Mr. Isaac Magaleta, a former teacher at the School and now Lecturer at Malawi Adventist University as Patron, Mr Andrew Khanganya as Chairperson, Ms Ellena Chakuamba as Secretary, and Arthur Tembo as Treasurer among others.
