Ex-Malawi Police officer Guta in another armed robbery
Former police officer, Kondwani Guta was two weeks ago arrested for allegedly being involved in another armed robbery.
Guta was interdicted from police service earlier this year after he was arrested and charged of robbery with violence following his involvement in an armed robbery incident in Kanjedza residential area, Blantyre last year.
And two weeks ago he was apprehended by Limbe police after being implicated in another robbery.
It is a second time he has been arrested in connection to criminal activities since his interdiction. He was arrested in Chikhwawa district earlier this year for breaking into one of the shops.
National police spokesperson, Rhoda Manjoro while confirming the arrest refused to comment on the issue.
”It is difficult for us to comment on that right now since the matter is in court,” said Manjolo.
According to information Nyasa Times has sourced, Guta was arrested after he was named to be the one who supplied a gun to some criminals who staged a robbery in Blantyre.
Guta, 25, who was stationed at Chilobwe Police Unit in Blantyre, was arrested on 13th December, 2014 together with his accomplice, Geoffrey Kandulu for attacking and robbing an Indian businessman, Yasin Yusuf using official riffle.
The two stole K980, 000 cash and two cellphones valued at K1, 120,000, and were caught after a fierce gun-fire exchange with Malawi police Mobile Force officers who were called to the scene of the incident in Kanjedza residential area.
Guta and Kandulu on 2nd January, 2015 pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence charge. The case is still in court.
The offence as stipulated in Section 301 of the Penal Code attracts a minimum of 14 years imprisonment, or Life Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL)-if the accused had used a dangerous weapon when committing the offence.
