Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary , Suzgho Nyirenda has been appointed to be amongst the Match Coordinators at the 2016 Council of Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa).
The competition is scheduled to take place in Namibia between 11th and 25th June 2016.
Nyirenda described the development as encouraging since it symbolizes and speaks volumes about the trust and confidence soccer bodies have towards Malawi.
He was again appointed as one of the Scrutineers at the Fifa elections held in February this year at the Fifa Headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
“It is no mean achievement and yes it is true that a prophet is not honoured in his home soil,” said Nyirenda sounding in a jokingly tone.
The 16th edition of the Cosafa tournament will be hosted by Namibia at two selected venues of Sam Nujoma and Independence Stadium in the capital Windhoek.
Namibia who are the defending champions face other 14 countries including Malawi.
Malawi are in Group B alongside Lesotho, Angola and Mauritius and are to date South Africa if they win the group qualifiers.
The competition was supposed to to be played in May but was shifted to avoid clashing with the South African Premier Soccer League which contains key players from most of the participating nations.
Meanwhile, Flames starts camping this Sunday 22nd May at the Mpira Village in Blantyre.
Nine professionals from South Africa and Mozambique have been called.
Surprisingly, Platinum Stars midfierder Robert Ng’ambi, Atusaye Nyondo, Esau Kanyenda, Zicco Nkanda, Richard Chipuwa, Simplex Nthala and Chimango Kaira have been dropped.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
