The latest Malawian fake doctor, Blessings Chisale, has strated serving a seven-year jail term after he was sentenced by the Mchinji First Grade Magistrate Court.
Chisale, real name Veriano Fungulani, was arrested last week at Mchinji district hospital where he posed as a medical doctor and was charged with an offence of impersonating public officers, which is contrary to Section 99 (b) of the Penal Code.
First Grade Magistrate Rodwell Meja said that he gave out the seven years to deter others from indulging in the same act which puts lives of people in great danger.
Fungulani is the fourth fake doctor to be arrested in Malawi and convicted for the past twelve months, with the first two cases of fake doctors registered at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and the other at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
The Mchinji case has come at a time Malawians thought the issue of fake doctors had died and the Mchinji man puzzled many as he was answering to four different names.
Chisale is the name he identified himself at the police, while the name of C. Simoko was on identity card of a security firm that was found at his house, but others knew him as Gift Chimwaza, yet his real name is said to be Veriano Fululani.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
