FAM say Presidential Cup 2017 edition focuses on five developmental areas

The 2017 Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) Cup will focus on five developmental areas, following the removal of Super League and regional league teams.

According to a statement from Football Association of Malawi (FAM)  released on Tuesday, the PIS for 2017 will take a different format from the past 6 editions following Malawi Government’s endorsement of FAM’s proposal to turn the programme into a developmental one.

Under the new format the PIS will focus on five developmental areas as of: Presidential under 17 League, Presidential District Championship, Presidential Capacity Development Program, Presidential Beach Soccer Cup and Presidential Women Football Cup.

FAM also reminds the nation that currently registration is underway for Under 17, District Championship, Beach soccer and Women Football.

“The Presidential under 17 League will be played in nine districts with National Youth Football Committee structures namely; Karonga, Mzuzu and Nkhatabay in the North; Lilongwe, Mchinji and Dedza in the South and Blantyre, Mangochi and Zomba in the South. The league will kick off on 29th April,” reads the statement in part.

Furthermore, FAM states that the Presidential District Championship will be a tournament for each of the 29 districts which will end at district level. To be played in Zones and Knockout at District finals. The District Championship will kick off on 8 April.

The project will continue the Presidential Women Football Cup with the old format. The Competition will start from the 15 districts across the country with the district champions joining seeded teams for the regional championship.

Then the team regional champions will square it in the national championship. The tournament will kick off on 15 April

In beach soccer, the project will continue the Presidential Beach Soccer Cup from the old format with teams competing on knockout basis in the five Zones namely; Karonga, Chintheche, Nkhotakota, Salima and Mangochi.

Currently, FAM has invited all interested football teams to register and participate in the various Presidential Football competitions which are expected to kick-off on 26 March 2016.

According to the release all teams are advised to contact District Football Associations in their respective districts for the registration process and further information.

According to FAM, the registration fee from District Football Teams is K10, 000.00 while U17 Youth League Teams is K20, 000.00. Beach Soccer teams will be required to pay K10, 000.00
