Fashion Africa to restore the true Malawian fashion

In a bid to raise the Malawian flag across the World through Malawian culture, Fashion Africa is undertaking a massive production and campaign to restore the true Malawian fashion.

Fashion Africa which is a brain child of Tour Africa Incorporation (TAI) came up with this evolution after realizing how unrecognizable the dressing code of Malawi remains at international level.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana), TAI Business Development Manager, Christopher Njeula, said Malawi is very reach on culture but when it comes to dressing most people prefer foreign clothes and dressing type, hence the company coming up with the initiative so to put Malawi on the World Map when it comes to the dressing code saying the country has lagged behind for so long.

“Our aim is to bring back the old dressing which our late- late grandparents used to put on; we are doing this through our own clothing company which is Fashion Africa and our aim is for these Malawian made clothes to be everywhere in the country like other foreign clothes do,” Njeula said.

He highlighted that by the end of this year Malawi will have its recognizable dressing code because they will do a lot of production and exportation of these clothes to other countries plus campaigning for Malawians to start buying their own brand.

“We are working hand in hand with Ministry of Trade and Industry, Nzika Wear and we are certain to achieve this by the end of 2014 because there are a couple of focused and talented groups coordinated by Ministry of Trade who so far are already producing ideal Malawian clothes,” he said.

According to Njeula, Tamarah Designers is among the best group coordinated by Ministry of Trade and Industry which is really making a strive in bringing back the true Malawian dressing style.

Njeula revealed that the company is organizing a National Trade Fair which will take place in all cities of the country starting with Lilongwe September end.

“This Trade Fair is one of the campaigns we are doing to realize the goal we have and so far we have invited our Tanzanian counterparts and our friends form Zambia to join us in this trade fair and appreciate what Malawi can make,” said he.

One of the Fashion Africa clients who is also the usual customer of Nzika wear Pauline Woodward said she is very pleased with what Fashion Africa is doing saying Malawi after 50 years of Independence needs such kind of innovation to grow economically and culturally.

“I am a Malawian and my husband is an American and I can tell you that together with his visiting friends from America like Malawian things more than you think, and they used to tell to me that we have a beautiful culture and that need to be complimented with our on dressing code and we will make it high at the international market,” Woodward said.

Fashion Africa was founded 3 months ago by Kay Phillip Kagwa, the founder of its mother company, Tour Africa Incorporation.

Apart from Fashion Africa, the mother company has Tour Africa Advertising Company, Kaso Media Production and Africlean.

It has branches in Malawi, South Africa and Tanzania.
