Faulty alarm forces Reserve Bank of Malawi staff out of offices

A faulty alarm, attached to one of security gadges at Reserve Bank of Malawi, forced members of staff out of their offices, fleeing for their lives on Tuesday morning in the capital Lilongwe.

The Reserve Bank of Malawi building

The workers temporarily abandoned there jobs as they experienced chaotic scenes and pandemonium as every one wanted to get out of the multi-storey building in Lilongwe.

There were no reports of injuries.

Spokesperson for the bank Mbane Ngwira said one of the sirens was triggered.

“Yes, we all went out, but we discovered it was just a malfunction of an alarm,” he said.

He said all the staff went back to their offices after they were addressed by the deputy governor.

Ngwira said the bank has many security gadgets, one of which triggered the alarm due to a malfunction.
