WELCOME TO OUR PARTY (MCP) REV. KALESO
Wokondedwa Abusa,
A long time has passed without hearing from you, but today, it is the press reports that have prompted me to write you. Nothing could have made my day than the news that you are joining our party. Since you have neither denied nor accepted the press gossip I have chosen to take the latter.
Welcome to the mighty Malawi Congress Party Reverend, the party of death and darkness as your former party, AFORD, used to call it. Reverend, do you think you have made the right decision. Our bank accounts are in red.
This is the party where achievements are acknowledged by the words ‘Zikomo Bwana’ only, no palm oiling. Will you put up with this? We are different from our colleagues who have got a Roman Abromavich and the others who are in fact dictating the pace of the kwacha.
We rely on well wishers and peoples personal strength of character. All this aside, Reverend, I can asure you that MCP is the only party where politics is taken as a career. People at MCP are principled and well disciplined by the four corner stones. Therefore, your decision to join us was a sacred one. I trust you will boost our chances of winning the elections in 2009 particularly in your home town of Mulanje.
Our party is now very transparent all the Judas Iscariots are no longer at MCP; they went to look for money in these other business-cum-political parties.
I still hold profound memories about you. Do you still congregate at Ngwalamba’s place? I have grave issues concerning our party that I want to discuss with you now that I hear you will be the Vice President. I can not make it to Mulanje to congregate with you at the usual place hence this letter will carry my grief. Since I know you personally that is why I have the nerve of writing you directly and hoping that you will brief the president.
THE PRESIDENT
Our President is a very listening and accommodating man contrary to what people say about him. Who does not make mistakes anyway? My only plea to you is that never ever talk about leadership while in our party. Ask Mbuya. Our President is like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
When Ferguson likes a player he adores him-Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney but when a player crosses his path he does not care how good that player was, David Beckham and Roy Keane.
Those are the qualities of our President JZU Tembo. Mwini feteleza. So, Reverend, choose the first option never cross his path let him adore you. I have harboured alot of good ideas for our party. Unfortunately my ideas have never reached the politburo..
Since you will be part of the politburo I want you to discuss the following with our President. If we are to win the 2009 elections the President should clear his name.
What he should know is that this is almost his last chance, ndiye payele payele. People say that he has got blood in his hands. People claim that while he was in power he used to employee citizens from his home district of Dedza only. Another allegation is that he hates northerners.
These are the only three major accusations put forward by his enemies and the three have damaged his political career so badly. It is quite easy to change this in people’s minds but what matters are the strategies.
RADIO SLOTS
The central point of our winning the 2009 elections is on the image of our President. Our party should buy five minutes air time on almost all the popular radio stations. Invite people to talk the good things our leader has done while working at Reserve Bank of Malawi and Commercial Bank.
You can even invite me to give testimonies of how people used to enjoy at MCP national headquarters when he was treasure general. Every employee was given a bag of maize during Christmas period. I used to see them carrying bags of maize as I was working at city centre. Chitsiru chilli ndimwini.
As a Reverend, you can entice the clergy to the programme. Let them talk of forgiveness.
Are Tembo’s crimes so serious that he can never be forgiven? Where is tolerance and democracy? Where is Christianity? What does the Koran say about forgiveness? Do the teachings of Jesus or Prophet Muhamad cease to exist when it comes to Tembo?
After all, these other leaders have killed before and they have been forgiven using the same teachings of Jesus. They have employed brothers and nephews and everybody seems not to see this but eyes only open when it is John Tembo.
Contracts have been given to daughters nobody comments.
During these radio slots invite lawyers, political analysts from universities, journalist to debate Tembo’s issues without fear or favour. I can assure you Reverend Kaleso, slowly these debates will stick in listener’s minds and the hate which they have on our leader shall go.
Abusa, one slip-up next year will mean ruling ourselves out of capital hill for years. That’s unthinkable as we are a superb party, although no party has the divine right to rule forever. We can win the 2009 elections, if anything people out there know that we are the smartest party.
CAMPAIGN
Bwana VP, tell our leader that this is the moment. Instead of wasting time joining other parties crying over section 65 he should concentrate on clearing his image.
Why go to a rally and make noise about section 65 when your own image is dented? Had we started this long time ago by now we should have changed the frame of mind of voters.
MAMA
Rev. Peter Kaleso, one of your tasks will be to sit down with Mama Cecelia Tamanda Kadzamira, OLM. Tell her to come out of her cocoon. Induce her to start talking. Knock into her senses that this is her uncle’s last chance in politics. She is a woman of charisma. Her mysterious relationship with the Lion makes her a unique breed.
Imagine people hearing a radio advert that Mama Cecelia Tamanda Kadzamira OLM will address a meeting at Katoto or Njamba Park what would happen? Thousands upon thousands of people will throng the two grounds. Hence she can take this opportunity to clear our President's name. Coming from her, people will without doubt listen.
She is a born again Christian. Her message should be simple. No mentioning of Muluzi or Bingu but Christianity, sharing of love and above all forgiveness. Next on her agenda will be to clear her uncle’s name. Telling people to forgive and forget.
The President should not accompany her. She should be the centre of attraction but you should always be in her company. You should always speak before her, being a Reverend you can be a good link to her Christian message. Definitely, she will not fall short of saying vote tambala wakuda as the Lion did.
Abusa, no two ways about it she should just carry her bags and start moving. Otherwise her uncle should forget about politics. Reverend, it really pains me that we should have won the elections long time ago but other parties capitalise on our Presidents shady background. Even kids of twenty to thirty years claim that our leader is bad. What wrong did he do to these toddlers?
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
The politburo does alot of talking. Some of these things should be left to the university students. We have got a lot of supporters amongst them. If anything Mama should visit these universities and lecture them about the ideologies of our party.
If late Nyandovi-kerr did it at Chancellor College why can’t she do the same? These students are good organisers they can mobilise crowds. Give them money to do fundraising activities.
You will be shocked, just as I was stunned when I was in London. MCP has got alot of support from Malawian students there.
KAMUZU CUP
Why does our party not have a national activity?
UDF can manage to raise twenty-two million kwacha in a short space of time for there convention why can’t we mobilise funds to that tune. Tell people to donate towards the revival of the Kamuzu Cup. Beg from companies, businessmen and many more.
We can run it for a year or two after all Stanbic failed to run theirs. This will be a big boost to the party’s image.
Imagine during the cup final the whole politburo at the stadium to present the cup and with God on our side guess the teams, Bullets and Wanders, what a crowd and what a coverage and what a point to our party.
CONFIDENCE
Reverend, you are bringing to MCP your expertise gained from AFORD and UDF. Our members lack confidence. Instil confidence in them during meetings. Show them that they are a winning party.
In that way they will walk with heads above there shoulders and in the process wooing more people into our party.
NORTHERN REGION
Abusa, people in the region already know you with your stint with AFORD. Address meetings with our President. Convince people that our leader does not hate northerners.
Eat with the people at Kawaza, Bolero in Rumphi district. Go to all the districts in the north, talk, sing and dance with the voters. Reverend, coil it before DPP swallows it all. I feel I have spoken alot about politics.
Is Thuthuwa around? I hear Chricie is now in Blantyre. How is Henry? What about Grace at nkhonya. One day I will congregate with you at Ngwalamba’s place.
Abusa, I am prepared to present a paper during one of your central executive meetings to sell my ideas to the politburo members so that come 2009 we should be in control of capital hill.
As I am positive that we are going to win the 2009 elections, Reverend, please remember me ‘kumpaladizoko’ (in paradise). Once again, welcome to our party Reverend Peter Kaleso, the party of light and life.
Yours truly,
Timau
