FIFA/FAM U-16 league to continue in June

FIFA and Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Under 16 Regional League will continue in June in order to allow the majority of the players to prepare for the exams, it has been learnt.

Sangala: Break

According to FAM Youth Football Development Officer James Sangala most of the players are in primary school.

“So we have taken a break in order for them to concentrate and prepare for examinations considering that a lot of players are in standard 8,” he said.

Prior to the break, Sangala said the Regional League was facing challenges amid more talent being spotted in a number of teams.

“We are meeting a lot of challenges for instance some coaches are using unregistered players and also teams are pressuring referees to favor them during some matches,” he explained.

Sangala added that most of the referees in the Regional League are not competent enough which is minimizing the quality of the league.

According to football Development Officer, so far, 689 goals have been scored in all the Regional league games taking place in the; Central, Eastern, Southern and Northern of the country.

The FIFA/FAM under 16 League was launched on October 28, 2015 and the new season was kicked off on November 28,2015.
