Fire guts down Malawi’s Bakers Pride Bakery

Fierce fire has gutted down Bakers Pride Bakery situated at Yianakis along Chipembere Highway in Limbe, razing multi-million worth of property.

Blantyre City fire brigades, who rushed to the scene of incident,  are currently struggling to put out the fire believed to have started at around midnight.

The premise has turned into a side-show as people flock to witness the unpleasant incident as the fire continue to consume down the bakery building with smoke engulfing the whole premise.

The bakery’s bread-baking factory has completely been burnt down as well as other items including vehicle tyres, bread-baking flour, and office furniture among others, which has been burnt to ashes.

Meanwhile, police are trying to assess the damage and identify the cause.

“Our investigations are underway to establish what caused the fire. We are getting contradicting information pertaining to what might have ignited the fire, but we don’t want to speculate,” said Limbe Police Public Relations Officer, Chifundo Chibwezo.

According to unconfirmed reports, the fire is alleged to have been started by unidentified robbers who wanted to steal from the bakery but their plan is said to have been foiled by the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system installed at the premise.
