Fire razes Malawi President Joyce Banda high school
Fierce fire has burnt down part of Joyce Banda Foundation Schools at Chimwankhunda Dam in Malawi’s commercial city of Blantyre.
One girls’ hostel has completely been destroyed by the fire which started around 21:30hoursWednesday night.
A team of fire brigade from the Blantyre City Council (BCC) responded swiftly and managed to put out the fire before it extended to other structures.
Scores of police officers were deployed to the high-class school immediately after the fire begun.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established as we went to press but eye witnesses told Nyasa Times it originated from a electricity spark in the girls hostel.
Roy Kachale, the President’s son who is also the school’s director was among the first people who rushed to the scene after the fire begun.
He was seen repeatedly shaking his head as the fire stretched.
Joyce Banda Foundation belongs to Malawi’s President Joyce Banda and is one of the country’s schools which sponsors vulrnerable children on scholarship.
