For the first time since 1964 a woman, Joyce Banda, became State President in 2012. In 2014 the overwhelming majority of women did not vote for their fellow woman to have a first 5-year term as president. Why? Yes there was cashgate during Joyce Banda’s rule but the party that won led by Peter Mutharika-DPP had brought Malawi to its knees by April 2012 when it was being led by the late Bingu wa Mutharika.
