Five-year jail term for Suncrest theft

The Blantyre Magistrates Court on Monday slapped three men with five-year jail term on theft charges relating to an incident that happened at Suncrest Creameries Limited in Blantyre last week.

On the night of Tuesday 25th October, 2016 Blantyre Police arrested three men Maxwell Tiyesi, 28, Gray Wanyasa, 21, and Solomon Kainga, 23, who were found stealing dairy products from the company together with their accomplices- currently on the run.

They were found with 95 cartons of Suncrest products that were packed in a minibus registration number NU 5518 they were using. Each carton contained 12 boxes of juice including 22 containers of 5 liter juice bottles.

According to information presented in court on Monday (31st October) by Blantyre police station prosecutor Superintendent Damiano Kaputa, Tiyesi and Wanyasa were the driver and conductor of the minibus respectively whilst Kainga worked as a guard at the company.

Kaputa told the court that the three were arrested by law-enforcers’ patrol team.

 First Grade Magistrate Kondwani Chinangwa slapped the three with stiff jail term inorder to deter wane-be offenders despite pleas for leniency during mitigation.

 Tiyesi hails from Traditional Authority (T/A) Changata in Thyolo district, Wanyasa is from T/A Somba in Blantyre and while Kainga hails from T/A Nsamala, in Balaka district.

 Meanwhile, the law-enforcers are on a man-hunt to arrest the remaining criminals that were involved in the theft but now are on the run.
