Four arrested over theft of Queen’s Hospital washing machine remanded at Chichiri Prison
Four suspects arrested over theft of a washing machine from Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyte have been remanded to Chichiri Prison after being formally charged at Blantyre Magistrate Court with theft by public servant.
The four, Francis Gwiranani, 52, Philip Malitino, 45, Yohane Kankhuni, 46, and Gerrard Maonde have been arrested following reports that the washing machine was missing at the hospital’s laundry section
Blantyre Police assistant spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said one of the suspects Gwiranani who works as senior maintenance supervisor cheated the Laundry Master at the hospital that he noted a fault in one of the machines.
The machine was taken out of the hospital on a pretext that it was going for repairs .
Police said they are yet to locate the machine which its type us XTQ 30H and strider number 22844 valued at $8500 ( about K6 million.)
Gwiranani comes from Chikuse village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mpama in Chiradzulu district, Malitino hails from Josamu village, TA Nsomba and Kankhuni comes from Dzungu village, TA Bvumbwe in Blantyre.
