G.Y Imports & Exports, Dr Print unveil ladies’ club sponsorship

Barely four months after officially launching Brave Hearts Basketball Club (BHBC) , Lilongwe based sister companies G.Y Imports and Exports and Dr Print has unveiled a landmark sponsorship package for a ladies’ basketball club, Lady Brave Hearts at African Bible College (ABC).

The  launch wasbe spiced up by a basketball match involving the Lady Brave Hearts and Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) All Stars curtain-raised by a grudge clash between Brave Hearts (Men) and Bayonets, who were finalists in the just-ended Brave Hearts Challenge Basketball Tournament won by the later.

Managing director for G.Y Imports and Exports and Dr Print Griffin Kalua said they decided to extend the sponsorship to ladies to bridge the gender balance and ensure the development of the game at all levels.

“As you are aware, Brave Hearts was formed with a purpose of complementing efforts by Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) and the government in developing and promoting the game of basketball. We realised we cannot achieve our objective by concentrating on men only,” said Kalua.

Lady Brave Hearts Captain Lisungu Banda-Moyo said the Lady Brave Hearts, who were previously known as Lady Bayonets were excited with the sponsorship from Dr Print and G.Y Imports and Imports.

“Every player in our team is excited with the sponsorship. We were having problems ranging from equipment to transport but from now this will be a thing of the past. Apart from easing our problems, this sponsorship is likely to improve the lives of the girls, who are going to be empowered both socially and economically,” said Moyo.

This will be the first time in local basketball history for a ladies basketball team to get a fully-fledged sponsorship.
