Garry Chirwa, Mike Bango win Standard Bank Cup media awards

Malawi’s celebrated sports journalist Garry Chirwa retained the Standard Knockout Football Cup print media award with Zodiak Broadcasting’s Mke Bango getting the award for  electronic media on Friday.

However there was no recognition for online media.

Standard Bank set the mood for festive season for Chirwa and Bango  received K200,000 each as an early Christmas gift.

Chirwa, who works for National Publications Limited, also won last year’s and was rewarded with a trip to watch the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Blantyre Newspapers Limited’s Lusayo Kanyika emerged second to pocket K100,000 while MBC’s outspoken sports commentator Peter Fote was second to Bango in electronic media.

The awards were handled by head of Media studies at Malawi Polytechnic McClean Kanyang’wa with Mabvuto Kapyepye and former BNL and NPL sports journalist Frank Phiri now head of Media department at FD Communications.

Mighty Wanderers retained the cup after beating Silver Strikers 1-0 in November.
