Gerald Phiri Jnr earns first Flames call-up, Malawi to play Tanzania March 28
Malawi national football team,coach Young Chimodzi has handed Zimbabwe Caps United midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr his first ever Flames call up as the team goes into camp this Sunday at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in preparation for a friendly match against Tanzania away on 28th March.
Phiri , formerly of Mighty Wanderers, scored a brace against Silver Strikers when his side beat the former TNM Super League champions 2-0 at the Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
He was also outstanding in a 2-1 loss to Bullets F.C on Wednesday and has been rewarded for his prolific form for a national team call up.
Football Association of Malawi (FMA) confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday 5th March 2015 and made available to Nyasa Times.
The friendly match will be played on 28th March, 2015 away in Tanzania.
According to the statement, the local players will camp for about two weeks starting from this Sunday while all the foreign based players will join the team in Tanzania.
The local squad has a few new faces from the lower leagues including Surestream Academy’s Bright Munthali, and Earnest Tambe as well as Hard Knockers defender Nashoni Harazi, Remedy Munthali from Kasungu Medicine and Dave Balaka from Dedza Young Soccer.

Gerald’ call is a long overdue. I watched this guy last two years he was too good to be ignored only that Malawi was not able to watch the player.
Papa has worked his way into the team, his performances, even in Zimbbwe have always suggested he needs to play for Flames, congrats young man!!!
