Tigresses recorded the biggest win after thumping Gerald Tasaukadala by 101 baskets to 13. Thunder Queens on the other hand swept aside Young Professionals with a 79-20 victory.

However, the battle was between Griffin Saenda’s Kukoma Diamonds and Mary Waya’s Alliance Capital. The game had high expectations amongst netball followers considering that Saenda had just returned from Australia where he guided the Queens to their best ever finish at the Fast Five World netball series. This comes against the background of poor results that the Queens produced under Waya’s leadership.

At the end, it was Diamonds who proved to be strong between the two with a 58-25 victory. This means Saenda’s Diamonds are on course for their continued dominance in the game having swept every major competition last season.

Speaking to Nyasa Times after watching the games at Blantyre Youth Centre, some  of the fans  said it was pleasing to watch the big guns especially after the Queen’s positive results at the Fast five.

“We have a bright future if we keep these girls in good shape. I have been here (BYC) since the first game and I have watched all the 3 big teams in action. It was pleasing to watch them and I hope this was a true reflection of what we watched at the Fast Five,” said one oc the fans.

Meanwhile, Fixture Secretary for the Southern Region Netball League Annie Hanjahanja says they are on course to finish the first round on time.
