Gloria Msindira, the newly-crowned Model of the Year 2013
Gloria Msindira was last Friday crowned Malawi News Model of the Year 2013. Courtesy of Nyasa Showbiz [NS] the 19-year-old Blantyre-based model in this exclusive interview shares her excitement over winning the crown and what she has on offer during her term.
NS: Winning Model of the Year 2013, how does it feel?
Gloria: Well, it feels great and I am so excited. It’s something I have always wanted.
NS: What should people expect from you during your term?
Gloria: I am planning of doing a couple of charity works and I will work with the organisers of ”Go Green” campaign of planting trees to create a good environment.
NS: We have seen that after Faith Chibale handed over the crown, her successors haven’t been active, why should Malawians be confident in you that you’ll deliver?
Gloria: My fellow Malawians should expect a lot from me. Like I said area on that I am so much into charity work and it’s something I enjoy doing. It feels good to put a smile on people’s faces.
NS: Give us a brief background about yourself?
Gloria: I am a 19-year-old last born in a family of six, studying Higher Diploma in Business Management at Malawi College of Accountancy. I am so much interested in fashion and helping out the needy. I am from Rumphi District [Northern Malawi].
NS: If you were appointed Malawi’s Tourism Ambassador, how would you market the country as a tourism destination?
Gloria: If I were to be appointed Malawi’s Tourism Ambassador, I would let people know the country’s best tourist destinations which can in turn develop the country when well managed.
NS: Which is your dream destination in Malawi and why?
Gloria: Likoma Island. The site has a beautiful view of the lake, amazing holiday resorts and beaches.
NS: When Gloria is not modeling or at school, what does she like doing?
Gloria: I like swimming, hanging out with friends and travelling.
NS: People might be interested to know, what inspired you into modeling?
Gloria: Well, Tyra Banks inspired me a lot; she started from a humble beginning and I told myself that if she made it why not me. I go interested in modeling at a very tender age. Elizabeth Pullu [former Miss Malawi] also inspired
me.
NS: Single or taken?
Gloria: Already taken.
NS: Finally, anything you may wish to add?
Gloria: I would like to tell people out there that I will work day and night to fulfill all the promises I
have made. I would also like to use this opportunity to advise the youth and others to abstain from casual sex or use protection because Aids is real and it kills.
