Goodall to begin pre-budget consultations next week

Finance, Economic Planning and Development  Minister Goodall Gondwe  will start pre-budget consultations with representatives of various sectors in preparation for the 2017-18 financial year scheduled to start on 1st July, 2017.

Gondwe  will be hearing suggestions on inclusive growth, investment in infrastructure sector with the  first session to be held from 3 -7 April 2017 at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

On Thursday 6 April a second consultative meeting will take place in the Central Region at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe.

The last budget consultative meeting is expected to take place on Friday 7 April in the Northern Region, at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel in Mzuzu.

“The aim of the consultation is to implore views, contributions and inputs from all stakeholders in Malawi on the 2017-18 budgets,” a statement from Ministry of Finance seen by Nyasa Times said on Tuesday

However,  the statement said dates for the consultations meetings with Members of the Budget and Finance Committee of parliament and Development partners will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance is also encouraging written submissions to be sent not later than 20 April 2017.

The budget consultation meetings are a series of activities conducted annually prior to the formulation of the national budget by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.
