Hollywood singer falls for Malawian Aemo E’Face

South African-based Malawian singer/rapper Aemo E’Face (real name Amos Mazinyane) has caught the ear and probably the heart of Hollywood star Orisha Pelzer and they will be working on several projects together.

The 25-year-old Malawian, signed to Waka Music Company and Artist Agency, owned by South Africa’s Hotel Rwanda actress Rosie Motene, revealed this to Nyasa Times from his base in Johannesburg.

And speaking from Los Angeles (LA), in an emailed interview with Nyasa Times, Orisha, a celebrated singer, actress, instrumentalist and TV host famously known as Orisha Sound, confirmed the news.

“Yes I am confirming the news and super excited about working with Aemo. We [are] both pop world musicians representing culture in songs we write and our performances. This collaboration is super hot and significant,” responded Orisha.

The two artists, who are working on new albums due next year, have agreed to work together on three or four songs that will appear on their albums and this will see both artists bridging the gap that has always existed between American and African music.

Aemo will be expected to be joining Orisha Sound in the USA on her upcoming album promo tour and she will also be coming to Africa to join E’Face on his promo tours.

“I’m super excited to be going Hollywood and bringing Hollywood talent to Africa. I was always a big dreamer but never saw this reality coming,” said the enchanted song-writer. “Am still absorbing it.”

He added: “Orisha is a beautiful, intelligent and talented young lady and am so blessed to have a chance to work with her, there’s more coming to Africa.”

The development will also see Waka Records and Agency working closely with LA-based Powerhouse Entertainment Group in making sure that both artists are perfectly represented in respective continents.

In the meantime, according to Waka Records, the new single of the two, titled “Deep inside me” is being produced in the USA, by Atlantic Records.

“The song will be written by renowned US producer Brian Nelson whose recent projects include Tank, Genuwine, Robyn Thick and Tyrese. It will be co-written by Orisha and E’Face and also Sam Salter formerly with LA Reid and Boys 2 Men. And the second single will be produced in SA, Johannesburg by Waka Producers,” disclosed the label.

Orisha is of Ingrian descent, a Slavic-Scandinavian ethnic minority. Born in Oslo, Orisha spent the first five years of her life in the Norwegian capital.

Being a true musician, by age 4 she had taken up singing and playing the violin and by age 16 she had perfected an additional 5 instruments.

With a great ear and wonderfully strong voice she began touring the US and Europe as a little girl, first performing with other musical protégés and later on with well-known singers and musicians from around the globe.

Her first single “Beautiful Sin”, which is doing well on iTunes, was released in September.

On the other hand, Aemo started his trade in the year 2000 with a Gospel hip-hop group CAS for Christ. He joined a Canadian based hip-hop group 265 Soundcrew in 2006 and saw light in music circles, before he went solo.

The ‘Midnight train to Jozi’ singer is a brother to former SA Boxing Champion and All African games bronze medallist Davie Mazinyane. He was among the African artists that performed at the opening of the 2012 Big Brother Africa TV show, alongside Davido, Camp Mulla and J.Cole, among others.
