House ‘warming’ fire! District Commissioner’s house gutted: Kalilombe has moved to Ntcheu from Phalombe
District commissioner Paul Kalilombe, who had just been transferred from Phalombe to Ntcheu, on Friday had his new house in Ntcheu on fire.
Deputy police spokesperson in Ncheu Hastings Chigaru confirmed the house of Kalilombe caught fire on Saturday morning around 7 am.
He could however not say what caused the fire but hinted it might have been electric fault.
“The district commissioner had just occupied the house a day before. Most of his property was unpacked and suddenly the house was on fire the next day,” Chigaru said.
He said people managed to save a few items from the inferno after breaking windows.
Police spokesman said the problem was that there is no fire fighting engine in Ntcheu and as the district relies on a fire engine from Lilongwe City Council.
